Terms of Use
Effective September 30, 2026.
These Terms of Use govern the Veto iOS and Android apps and foodveto.com, offered by Venture Deals, Co. ("Veto", "we", "us"). By creating an account or using Veto, you agree to them.
The service
Veto reads a Product's barcode, or a photograph of its ingredient list, and returns a Verdict against Veto's own written standard: Yes or No, with the grounds for a No shown underneath. It covers food and personal care, such as toothpaste and deodorant. Which ingredients clear that standard, and which don't, is Veto's own precautionary judgment — see The Standard on foodveto.com for how it's set.
Accounts
Signing in uses Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google — one account per person. You're responsible for activity under your account and for keeping access to that Apple or Google account secure. Scanning and getting a Verdict never requires an account; signing in is only needed to keep your Personal Rules and Veto Plus with you across devices.
Veto Plus
Veto Plus is an auto-renewable subscription billed at $4.99 per month or $49.99 per year, charged to the Apple or Google account you subscribe with. A subscription renews automatically at the price then in effect unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Manage or cancel it in your App Store or Google Play account settings — Veto has no separate cancellation path, since it never receives your payment details. Refunds are handled under Apple's or Google's own refund policy, not directly by Veto.
Veto may also grant a one-time, no-payment seven-day trial period of Veto Plus. It never requires payment details and does not automatically convert into a paid subscription — choosing to continue after it ends still requires subscribing through the App Store or Google Play as described above.
Acceptable use
Scanning and Label Capture are for your own personal, non-commercial use. Don't:
- Submit a Label Capture of a label you don't have the right to photograph and submit.
- Submit a Label Capture that isn't an actual product's own printed ingredient list.
- Interfere with, disrupt, or attempt to circumvent how the service works.
Disclaimer
Veto applies a written standard; it is not medical or dietary advice. It is a precautionary opinion, not medical advice, and does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent anything. If you have a medical condition, talk to a clinician.
Content licences
Veto's ingredient and product information draws on Open Food Facts, Open Beauty Facts and Open Products Facts (each database licensed ODbL 1.0) and USDA FoodData Central. Shop locations are © OpenStreetMap contributors, also under the ODbL 1.0. That data belongs to those sources under their own licences; Veto only reads and cites it. A Label Capture you contribute is published back to Open Food Facts under the licences named in the Privacy Policy's Sharing section, unless it was sent as a personal-care or other non-food product; one of those is not published outside Veto today. A capture that doesn't say what kind of product it is, including any sent from a version of the app before 1.2, is treated as food and may be published.
Liability
Veto is provided as is. To the extent the law allows, Venture Deals, Co. is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of Veto, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid Veto in the twelve months before the claim — nothing, for an account that never subscribed to Veto Plus.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
Apple's licence agreement
For the iOS app, Apple's Standard End User License Agreement applies in addition to these Terms, and Apple is a third-party beneficiary entitled to enforce it against you.
Changes
If these Terms change, the new version is posted at this address with an updated effective date above.
